Kenmore Washer UE Error Code
Load is unbalanced (796 models) on Kenmore washers.
KenmoreAll Kenmore washer codes
The washer couldn't balance the load for spinning, so it stopped. A tangled sheet, one heavy item, a very small load or a washer that rocks on its feet will all cause it.
Compatible models
Kenmore front-load washers and Kenmore and Kenmore Elite top-load washers in the 796 range (top-loaders may show uE).
Also shown as
Some 796 top-loaders show it in lowercase as uE. Whirlpool-built VMW top-loaders use F0 E5 and Oasis models use uL for the same problem.
Difficulty
Most people can clear this one at home with simple checks.

How to fix Kenmore UE
Rearrange the load
Untangle the items and spread them around the drum. Add a couple of towels to a single-item load, or take some items out of an overstuffed one.
Check the feet
Press down on opposite top corners. If the cabinet rocks, loosen the lock nut on the short leg, turn the leg until it touches the floor, then tighten the nut.
Use a level
Set a bubble level on top, front-to-back and side-to-side. Sears PartsDirect says a quarter bubble off or less is fine.
When to call a technician
If the code returns with balanced loads, a damper (shock absorber) or suspension spring may be broken; replacing those means removing the top panel, so call a technician if you're unsure.
