Editorial Policy
Every guide on HomeFixCodes follows the same process, so you can trust what you read and see where it came from.
Sources
We start with the manufacturer: support articles, owner's manuals, installation guides and technical sheets. Where those are thin, we use established repair references such as major parts retailers' repair guides. We don't rely on forums or anonymous lists, and if we can't confirm what a code means, we leave it out rather than guess.
Fact-checking
After a guide is written, a second reviewer checks each meaning, model note and step against the sources, corrects anything overstated, and flags codes that mean different things on different models or in different regions.
Safety
We only describe steps a homeowner can do safely: unplugging or switching off the breaker first, cleaning filters, checking hoses and vents. We never tell readers to bypass safety switches, work on live wiring, or touch gas or refrigerant lines. When a fix needs a professional, we say so.
Writing
Guides are written in our own words, kept short and specific, with measurements in inches and Fahrenheit (metric in brackets).
Updates and corrections
Each page shows the date it was last reviewed. If you spot an error, tell us; we check every report against the manufacturer's information and update the page.
Advertising
The site is funded by ads served by Google. Ads are clearly separate from our content, and advertisers don't influence what we write.
