GE Washer UE Error Code
Load is unbalanced. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.
The clothes have bunched up on one side of the basket, so the washer cannot spin safely at full speed. It may try to rebalance on its own; if it cannot, clothes come out wetter than normal.
Shown as 'UE' on some models. Many GE washers instead blink the Spin (or Spin and Rinse) light, and some top-loaders scroll 'bALAnCINg' while they correct the load.
How to fix GE UE
Redistribute the load
Pause the washer, wait for the basket to stop and the lid or door to unlock, then spread the clothes evenly around the basket. Untangle sheets and separate heavy items like towels and jeans.
Avoid tiny or single-item loads
One heavy item, such as a bath mat or a pair of jeans, is hard to balance. Add a few similar items so the weight spreads out.
Run a Drain and Spin
If the load finished wet, run a Drain and Spin (or Spin only) cycle after redistributing the clothes.
Level the washer
Place a level across the top, front to back and side to side. Adjust the leveling legs and tighten their lock nuts so the washer does not rock.
When to call a technician
If the washer balances poorly even with normal mixed loads and is level, worn suspension parts may be the cause and a technician should inspect them.
Parts that commonly cause UE
- Suspension rods or springs
- Leveling legs
Order parts by your exact model number so they fit.

Frequently asked questions
What does UE mean on a GE washer?
The clothes have bunched up on one side of the basket, so the washer cannot spin safely at full speed. It may try to rebalance on its own; if it cannot, clothes come out wetter than normal.
Can I fix GE UE myself?
Usually, yes. Most UE problems clear with simple checks you can do at home. Start with the first step above: redistribute the load.
What if UE keeps coming back?
A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when UE appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
