GE Washer FE Error Code
Water level too high. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.
The washer detected water at a critically high level, which risks an overflow. This usually means the fill valve is not shutting off or the level sensing has failed.
Shown on some GE washers through the Consumer Help Indicator. GE's WSL-series top-loaders show a similar overflow warning as 'OE'.
How to fix GE FE
Shut off water and power
Turn off both water faucets behind the washer right away, then unplug it. If water has reached the outlet or cord, switch off the washer's breaker instead of touching the plug, then mop up.
Keep the washer off until it is serviced
Do not try to run another cycle. Leave the faucets off so the washer cannot keep filling.
When to call a technician
Call for service as soon as this appears; GE directs customers to turn off water and power and schedule a repair.

Frequently asked questions
What does FE mean on a GE washer?
The washer detected water at a critically high level, which risks an overflow. This usually means the fill valve is not shutting off or the level sensing has failed.
Can I fix GE FE myself?
Only the basic checks. You can safely try the steps above, but FE usually points to a part or fault that needs a technician.
What if FE keeps coming back?
A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when FE appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
