Kenmore Dryer E8C Error Code
High-limit thermostat keeps tripping (417 dryers) on Kenmore dryers.
KenmoreAll Kenmore dryer codes
The high-limit thermostat has cut the heat several times, which tells the control the dryer is running too hot. Most often the exhaust vent is restricted. Less often, a relay on the control board is stuck closed and the heat never switches off.

How to fix Kenmore E8C
Clean the screen and slot
Clean the lint screen and vacuum the slot it sits in, as far down as the nozzle reaches.
Check the whole vent run
Unplug the dryer, pull it out and straighten or replace crushed duct. Clean the duct to the outside and make sure the outside flap opens.
Watch the next load
Run a normal load. If the dryer still gets very hot or the code returns with a clear vent, stop using it.
When to call a technician
A dryer that runs constantly hot with a clean vent may have a stuck relay on the control board. That needs a technician, and the dryer shouldn't be used until it's fixed.
