The control sees a key that stays pressed. A swollen or cracked membrane, sticky residue around a button, or a cleaner that seeped behind the panel can cause it. If the key won't release, the keypad assembly has to be replaced.
Compatible models

Also shown as

How to fix Kenmore F02 / F2E1
Press each button
Press and release every key firmly, one at a time. Feel for one that's mushy, raised or doesn't click back.
Clean around the keys
Unplug the dryer. Wipe the panel with a cloth that's barely damp with mild soapy water, working around the edges of the stuck key. Don't spray anything straight onto the panel.
Power cycle
Leave the dryer unplugged for a minute, then plug it back in and see if the code is gone.
When to call a technician
If the key stays stuck, the user interface (or, on Elite models, whichever of the two console assemblies holds that key) needs replacing. On a 417, the control board is the listed part.
