Kenmore Dryer AF / F30 / F4E3 Error Code
Exhaust airflow is restricted on Kenmore dryers.
KenmoreAll Kenmore dryer codes
Hot air can't get out of the dryer fast enough. A lint screen coated with lint or softener film, a crushed transition duct behind the machine, lint packed in the wall duct or a stuck flap on the outside hood are the usual reasons. Loads take longer, and a choked vent is a fire risk.
Compatible models
Kenmore Elite dryers (F:30), the Kenmore Elite Oasis dryer (AF or F-30) and Kenmore 110 model VMAX dryers (F4 E3), as listed by Sears PartsDirect.
Also shown as
The Kenmore Elite table writes it F:30, the Elite Oasis shows AF or F-30, and the 110 VMAX shows F4 E3. On 417 dryers a blocked vent tends to show up as E8C, which is a separate entry on this page.
Difficulty
Most people can clear this one at home with simple checks.

How to fix Kenmore AF / F30 / F4E3
Wash the lint screen
Pull the screen and clear the lint. If you use dryer sheets, scrub the mesh under running water with a soft brush, since the waxy film blocks air even when the screen looks clean. Let it dry before sliding it back.
Fix crushed duct behind the dryer
Unplug the dryer and slide it out a few inches. On a gas model, don't stretch or kink the gas line. Straighten any crushed or sharply bent sections of the transition duct, and replace a section that stays flattened or is torn.
Clean the run to the outside
Disconnect the duct at the dryer and brush or vacuum it out along its full length. Outside, check that the hood's flap swings open and nothing (lint, a nest, snow) is sitting in it.
Run a short heated test
Reconnect everything, plug in and run a short Timed Dry. With the dryer running, you should feel a strong, warm stream at the outside hood.
When to call a technician
Book a vent cleaning service if the duct runs through a wall, attic or roof you can't reach, or if the code returns after a full cleaning. Keeping a blocked dryer in use risks a lint fire.
