Door switch problem on Kenmore dishwashers.
KenmoreAll Kenmore dishwasher codes
F5E1 appears when the door wasn't shut within about 4 seconds of pressing Start/Resume, or when the latch or its switch has broken. F5E2 is the opposite case: the board never saw the door open between one cycle and the next, so it suspects the switch is stuck.
Compatible models
Sears PartsDirect lists both codes for the Kenmore HE, Elite HE, Global HE and MicroClean HE families.
Also shown as
Without a display, F5E1 shows as the Clean light flashing 5-1 and F5E2 as 5-2.

How to fix Kenmore F5E1 / F5E2
Close the door right after Start
Press Start/Resume and latch the door straight away, inside 4 seconds. Push it firmly until you feel the latch catch.
Open and close the door once (F5E2)
Cancel the cycle, open the door fully, shut it again and restart. Unloading clean dishes normally does this for you.
Cycle the power
If it still won't start, turn the power off and on again. Sears PartsDirect notes that a cycle starting after this, but not after opening the door, means the latch switch isn't reporting properly.
When to call a technician
A broken latch, or a cycle that only starts after a power reset, means the door latch assembly or its harness needs replacing. Book a repair if you're not comfortable removing the door panel.
