Kenmore Dishwasher AE / E1 Error Code
Leak detected in the base (722 series) on Kenmore dishwashers.
KenmoreAll Kenmore dishwasher codes
The flood switch under the tub has found water in the base pan. A leaking fill line, door seal, pump, hose or sump is the likely source. Sears PartsDirect notes that low water in the tub, which makes the circulation pump spin fast, can also set it off.

How to fix Kenmore AE / E1
Turn off power and water
Switch off the breaker and close the water valve under the sink. If water is spreading toward an outlet, use the breaker rather than reaching for a plug.
Find the leak
Remove the toe panel and look along the floor of the base with a flashlight. Check the fill line connection, the drain hose and the door seal for drips.
Dry the base pan
Soak up the water with towels and leave the toe panel off until the base pan is completely dry. Then restore power and see whether the code has cleared.
Check the drain hose setup
If the base was dry, look at how the drain hose is routed. Without a high loop or air gap, water can siphon out and leave the tub low.
When to call a technician
A leak inside the sump or pump area, or a code that stays on with a dry base, needs a technician to repair the leak or replace the flood switch.
