About Kenmore dishwasher error codes
Kenmore is an American appliance brand that was sold for decades through Sears. Other manufacturers built Kenmore appliances under contract, and the first three digits of the model number (such as 110, 417 or 796) tell you which product family you have. The error codes follow that family's system, so check your model number before you read a code.
How to read Kenmore dishwasher codes
Kenmore dishwashers come in several families, and the codes change from one to the next. Find the full model number on the dishwasher's model tag and note the first three digits. Sears PartsDirect publishes separate code tables for 722.146 models (two-letter codes like IE and OE), 363 electronic-control models (C1 to C8), 665 models (light patterns) and the Kenmore HE, Elite HE, Global HE and MicroClean HE lines (F codes). A code from another family on this page may mean something different on yours.
Kenmore HE models without a display blink the Clean light in two groups: a count for the function, a 2-second pause, then a count for the problem. Six blinks then one is 6-1, the same as F6E1. The pattern repeats after 5 seconds, and the buttons won't respond while it's flashing.
On Kenmore HE, Elite HE, Global HE and MicroClean HE models, Sears PartsDirect starts F1E1, F1E2 and F7E2 with the power off for 5 minutes; the 363 table gives 3 minutes for C7. On 665 models, Sears PartsDirect says the light pattern goes away by itself once the cause has been fixed.
Of the 20 codes on this page, 4 usually have a simple fix you can do yourself, and 8 usually need a technician. Each guide says which is which, so you don't pay for a service call you don't need, and you don't attempt a repair that isn't safe.

Leaks out the front of the door usually come from the wrong detergent (dish soap makes suds that push past the seal), a torn or dirty door gasket, or a dish blocking the door.

Dirty dishes usually trace back to a clogged filter, spray arm holes plugged with debris, water that isn't hot enough, or loading that blocks the spray.

A clogged filter, a garbage disposer that needs clearing (or a new one with its knockout plug still in), a blocked air gap or a kinked drain hose cause most drain problems.

Before you start
- Write down your model number. It's on a sticker, usually inside the door or lid, on the frame, or on the back or side panel. Parts and some code meanings depend on it.
- Try a reset. Unplug the dishwasher or switch off its breaker for 10 minutes. This clears many one-off glitches without tools.
- Clean the filter at the bottom of the tub. A clogged filter is behind many drain and wash codes.
