How to fix Carrier E3 / F5
Clean the indoor filters
Switch the system off at the breaker, lift the front panel and slide out the mesh filters. Wash them with mild soap and water, let them dry completely and push them back in.
Free the outdoor fan
For F5, keep the power off and clear snow, ice, leaves or sticks that could be touching the fan blade or blocking its grille. Let ice melt rather than chipping at it.
Restart
Restore power and wait. The 40MHH picks up its previous settings about 3 minutes after power returns.
When to call a technician
If the fan is clear and the code returns, the motor or the board that drives it needs testing by a technician.
