How it works
A DC motor spins the wheel at the speed the board calls for. The board reads the motor's speed signal and stops with a fan code if it falls too low.
Signs it is failing
- Weak or no airflow from the indoor unit
- Rattling, rubbing or squealing
- A fan speed code
- Mold or dirt buildup on the blower blades
- Ice on the indoor coil from low airflow
Indoor fan codes point to the motor, its wiring or the board. Dirt on the blower or blocked vents can also cause slow-speed codes.
Can you replace it yourself?
Clean the filters and make sure nothing blocks the air outlet, then reset power. Removing the blower wheel or motor usually means taking the indoor unit apart, which is best left to a tech.
Buying the right part
Motors and wheels are specific to the indoor unit model.
