Carrier Air Conditioner 32 / 83 Error Code
Low-pressure or discharge temperature trip on Carrier air conditioners.
CarrierAll Carrier air conditioner codes
Either the low-pressure switch or the compressor discharge temperature switch opened, and the compressor stopped. A single event shows as 32; after three cycles in a row the board locks the unit out and shows 83. Carrier's checklist is short: refrigerant charge and indoor airflow.
Compatible models
Infinity two-stage outdoor units; Carrier's tables for the 24ANB7 air conditioner and 25HNB6/25HNB9 heat pumps both carry these codes.
Also shown as
On heat pumps the low-side switch is a loss-of-charge switch on the liquid line. As with 31, the board retries every 15 minutes, and a lockout clears after 4 hours or a 24-volt power cycle.
Difficulty
Start with the safe checks below; a worn part may need replacing.

How to fix Carrier 32 / 83
Replace or clean the furnace filter
A clogged filter starves the indoor coil of air, which drags suction pressure down. Turn the system off at the thermostat, swap the filter for a new one of the same size and note the airflow arrow.
Open the registers
Walk the house and open supply registers that have been shut, and move rugs or furniture off return grilles.
Look for ice
If the copper line at the outdoor unit or the indoor coil is iced over in cooling, set the thermostat to off and the fan to on for a few hours so it thaws before anyone restarts the system.
Reset the control power
Once airflow is sorted, switch the furnace or fan coil off for a minute and back on to clear an 83 lockout.
When to call a technician
If the trip returns with a fresh filter and open vents, the system is likely low on refrigerant or has a restriction. Only an EPA-certified technician can find the leak and recharge it.
