GE Dryer Check Vent Error Code
Low airflow: the vent is likely blocked. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.
Certain GE models monitor the exhaust leaving the dryer, and the Check Vent alert comes on when too little air is getting out. Lint packed in the duct or a blocked outside hood is the usual reason. When hot, damp air can't escape, the cabinet can get hot, loads take longer, and lint collects in the vent, where it can catch fire.
Only some GE models have the vent sensor; GE does not list which ones, and its support page does not describe how the alert is cleared. Check your owner's manual for your model.
How to fix GE Check Vent
Clean the lint filter
Pull out the lint filter and remove all the lint. If it looks clogged even when clean, wash it with warm water and a soft brush and let it dry fully before putting it back.
Clean the duct
Unplug the dryer and pull it out gently; on a gas dryer, stop if the gas line would be stretched or bent, and never disconnect it yourself. Disconnect the duct from the dryer and vacuum or brush the lint out of it. Use rigid or flexible metal duct, about 4 in (10 cm) across; replace any plastic duct, which GE says not to use.
Check the outside hood
Go outside and make sure the hood's flaps open and close freely and that nothing is inside it, such as packed lint, a bird nest, snow, or ice.
Test the airflow
Reconnect the duct, plug in, and run the dryer on heat for a few minutes. You should feel a strong stream of air at the outside hood. GE recommends cleaning the vent at least once a year even if the alert never shows.
When to call a technician
If airflow is still weak after cleaning, or the duct runs through walls, an attic, or a roof you can't reach, hire a dryer vent cleaning service. Don't run a gas dryer without a working vent, because exhaust, including carbon monoxide, can build up indoors.

Frequently asked questions
What does Check Vent mean on a GE dryer?
Certain GE models monitor the exhaust leaving the dryer, and the Check Vent alert comes on when too little air is getting out. Lint packed in the duct or a blocked outside hood is the usual reason. When hot, damp air can't escape, the cabinet can get hot, loads take longer, and lint collects in the vent, where it can catch fire.
Can I fix GE Check Vent myself?
Usually, yes. Most Check Vent problems clear with simple checks you can do at home. Start with the first step above: clean the lint filter.
What if Check Vent keeps coming back?
A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when Check Vent appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
