GE Dryer 006 / F06 Error Code

Stuck button on the control panel. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

006 / F06
Moderate DIY

The control board reads one of the panel buttons as pressed all the time. A key that was pressed too hard, grime or debris behind a button, or a worn membrane panel can cause this. The code appears after the button has read as held for several minutes.

Shown as 006 on GE models with three-digit codes (such as the GFD series) and as F06 on CleanSpeak-style models.

Safety first: unplug the dryer (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix GE 006 / F06

  1. Press every button

Firmly press and release each button on the panel one at a time. Feel for one that doesn't click or spring back like the others.

  2. Clean the panel

Unplug the dryer and wipe the panel with a cloth that is only slightly damp, working around the edges of the buttons. Don't spray liquid onto the panel, and let it dry before restoring power.

  3. Reset the dryer

Leave the dryer unplugged (or its breaker off) for 3 minutes, then restore power and see if the code returns.

When to call a technician

If a button stays stuck or the code keeps coming back, the control panel (and sometimes the control board) needs to be replaced by a technician.

Frequently asked questions

What does 006 / F06 mean on a GE dryer?

The control board reads one of the panel buttons as pressed all the time. A key that was pressed too hard, grime or debris behind a button, or a worn membrane panel can cause this. The code appears after the button has read as held for several minutes.

Can I fix GE 006 / F06 myself?

Often. The first steps above are safe checks a homeowner can do. If they don't clear 006 / F06, the cause is likely a worn part that needs replacing.

What if 006 / F06 keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when 006 / F06 appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
