P1
Easy DIY fix

On Midea portable air conditioners, P1 means the bottom collection tray is full of condensate. The unit stops cooling until you drain it.

Also shown as

On Midea mini-splits P1 is an older code for a voltage fault (now PC 01), so it means something different there.

Difficulty

Most people can clear this one at home with simple checks.

Safety first: unplug the air conditioner (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Midea P1

  1. Drain the tray

Turn the unit off and unplug it. Set a shallow pan under the drain at the back, unscrew the drain cap, and let the water run out. Tip the unit back slightly to get the last of it, then refit the cap firmly.

  2. Connect a drain hose for humid days

Midea's fix is to connect the drain hose and drain the water away. Run the hose downhill to a floor drain or bucket so gravity can do the work.

When to call a technician

If P1 keeps coming back, Midea says to call for service. A stuck water level switch is one possibility.
