Midea Air Conditioner EL 01 Error Code
Indoor and outdoor units have lost contact on Midea air conditioners.
MideaAll Midea air conditioner codes
The indoor unit stopped hearing back from the outdoor unit. A tripped outdoor breaker, a brief power glitch, or a loose or damaged connecting cable between the two units are the usual reasons, and a failed control board is the less common one.
Compatible models
Midea mini-splits with the newer four-character display. Midea's bulletin on this code system doesn't name model numbers, so match the code against your owner's manual.
Also shown as
Older Midea mini-splits show the same fault as E1. Don't confuse it with E1 on a Midea portable unit, which is a room sensor fault.
Difficulty
Start with the safe checks below; a worn part may need replacing.

How to fix Midea EL 01
Check both breakers
Many mini-splits have a separate breaker or outdoor disconnect for the outdoor unit. If that one has tripped, the indoor unit loses its partner and shows EL 01 a few minutes after you start it.
Watch the outdoor unit after a reset
After a full power-off, start the system from the remote and check whether the outdoor fan and compressor come on. If the outdoor unit stays silent, tell the technician.
Think back to recent work
If EL 01 started right after the system was installed, moved, or had work done near the line set, call the installer first. A wiring mistake between the units can cause it.
When to call a technician
If the code comes back after a full power reset, leave the wiring alone and book an HVAC technician to test the interconnect cable and both control boards.
