Gree Air Conditioner E1 Error Code
High pressure protection on Gree air conditioners.
GreeAll Gree air conditioner codes
Pressure on the high side of the refrigerant system got too high and the protection switch stopped the compressor. GREE names dirty coils, restrictions in the system, and overcharging as typical causes.
Compatible models
GREE lists E1 in its US code FAQ, which covers its residential mini-splits (single-zone, multi-zone and ducted) without naming specific models.
Also shown as
GREE also lists a lowercase e1 for a pressure transducer fault, which is a different problem. Read the display carefully.
Difficulty
Start with the safe checks below; a worn part may need replacing.

How to fix Gree E1
Clean the indoor filters
Turn the system off, open the front panel, and slide out the mesh filters. Rinse them, let them dry, and put them back.
Clear the outdoor coil with power off
Switch off the outdoor disconnect or breaker. Remove leaves and debris, then gently hose the coil from the outside. Keep about 2 ft (60 cm) clear around the unit.
Run it on a hot afternoon
Once power is back, run cooling during the warmest part of the day and note whether E1 comes back. Timing helps the technician.
When to call a technician
If E1 comes back with clean filters and a clean outdoor coil, a technician needs to check the fans, the high-pressure switch, and the refrigerant charge.

Frequently asked questions
Which Gree models show the E1 code?
GREE lists E1 in its US code FAQ, which covers its residential mini-splits (single-zone, multi-zone and ducted) without naming specific models.

Often. The first steps above are safe checks a homeowner can do. If they don't clear E1, the cause is likely a worn part that needs replacing.
