LG Washer dE Error Code
Door or lid won't lock. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.
The washer can't confirm that the door or lid is closed and locked, so it won't start or continue. Laundry caught in the door gasket, an overstuffed drum, or something stuck under the lid is the most common cause; a bent latch or failed lock switch is less common.
Front-load: dE (lock failed), dE1 (door not fully closed), dE2 (door closed but not latched). Top-load: dE means the lid isn't closed or locked. SideKick pedestal: dE1 and dE2 mean the drawer isn't closed or isn't locked, dE3 means the pedestal's lid isn't latched, and dE4 means the drawer didn't close completely, often because something is caught along its side.
How to fix LG dE
Clear and re-close the door
Open the door or lid and check the gasket, latch area and rim for clothing, packing material or other obstructions. Remove anything in the way, close it firmly, and press Start/Pause.
Reduce an overstuffed load
If the drum is crammed, take a few items out so the door can close without pressing against laundry, then close it again.
Reset the controls
Turn the washer off, then unplug it or switch off its breaker. With the power cut, press and hold Start/Pause for about 5 seconds. Restore power and try the cycle again.
Check the pedestal drawer (SideKick)
For a dE code on a pedestal washer, pull the drawer all the way out and look for a sock or other item caught along the sides or the rails. Remove it and push the drawer firmly closed before restarting.
When to call a technician
If the door closes cleanly but the code returns, or the latch looks bent or broken, the door lock assembly needs service.

Frequently asked questions
What does dE mean on a LG washer?
The washer can't confirm that the door or lid is closed and locked, so it won't start or continue. Laundry caught in the door gasket, an overstuffed drum, or something stuck under the lid is the most common cause; a bent latch or failed lock switch is less common.
Can I fix LG dE myself?
Usually, yes. Most dE problems clear with simple checks you can do at home. Start with the first step above: clear and re-close the door.
What if dE keeps coming back?
A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when dE appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
