LG Washer FE Error Code

Tub has overfilled. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

FE
May need a pro

The washer sensed more water in the tub than it should have. This usually means the water inlet valve is not shutting off or the water level sensor is misreading the level.

Listed for both front-load and top-load models.

Safety first: unplug the washer (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix LG FE

  1. Shut off the water

Turn off both supply faucets behind the washer right away to stop more water from entering.

  2. Drain the extra water

Run a Drain or Spin Only cycle to pump out the excess water. If water has spread across the floor toward the outlet or cord, don't touch the plug; switch off the washer's breaker instead and call for service.

  3. Unplug until repaired

Once the tub is drained, unplug the washer and leave both faucets off. LG advises keeping it unplugged until it has been repaired, so don't run test cycles in the meantime.

When to call a technician

An overfill that repeats points to a faulty inlet valve or water level sensor, which a technician should replace; don't keep running the washer in the meantime.

Frequently asked questions

What does FE mean on a LG washer?

The washer sensed more water in the tub than it should have. This usually means the water inlet valve is not shutting off or the water level sensor is misreading the level.

Can I fix LG FE myself?

Only the basic checks. You can safely try the steps above, but FE usually points to a part or fault that needs a technician.

What if FE keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when FE appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
