Not enough water coming in on Amana washers.

F8 E1
Easy DIY fix

The washer isn't seeing as much incoming water as it expects. Taps that aren't fully open, kinked or swapped hoses, crusted inlet screens and anti-flood fittings that throttle the flow are the usual causes.

Compatible models

Front-load Amana washers. Amana's page covers the whole front-load line and names no specific models.

Also shown as

Some models show Lo FL instead. The door can stay locked with the buttons dead; pressing Power starts a drain routine of about 8 to 10 minutes, and the control ignores input until it ends.

Difficulty

Most people can clear this one at home with simple checks.

Safety first: unplug the washer (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Amana F8 E1

  1. Open both taps fully

Both the hot and cold hoses need to be connected, with both taps turned fully on. That applies even if you only ever wash in cold.

  2. Check the hose hookup

Straighten any kinks. Red goes hot to hot, blue goes cold to cold.

  3. Clean the inlet screens

Unplug the washer and shut both taps. Unscrew the hoses at the back of the washer, pick out mineral crust or grit from the screens, and reconnect.

  4. Test the hoses and remove flow limiters

Run water through each hose at a sink and replace any that barely trickle. Amana says to connect the washer straight to the taps, because anti-flood devices can cut the pressure.

When to call a technician

Strong flow through both hoses and clean screens, but F8 E1 won't clear: the water inlet valve or level sensing needs a technician.
