Whirlpool Dryer Loc Error Code

Control lock is turned on. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

Loc
Easy DIY fix

Loc is not a fault. It means the control lock (child lock) has been switched on, so the buttons are disabled and the dryer will not start until you unlock it.

On some models the lock has its own key; on others it shares a button with another option, such as Steam. Check your owner's manual for which button to hold.

Safety first: unplug the dryer (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Whirlpool Loc

  1. Hold the Control Lock button

Press and hold the Control Lock key for about 3 seconds. Many models count down 3, 2, 1 and then unlock.

  2. Hold the button, not the label

If the lock is printed under another button, press and hold that button itself for 3 seconds rather than pressing on the printed text.

When to call a technician

If the dryer stays locked after holding the correct button, contact Whirlpool support with your model number.

Can I fix Whirlpool Loc myself?

Usually, yes. Most Loc problems clear with simple checks you can do at home. Start with the first step above: hold the control lock button.

What if Loc keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when Loc appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
