Maytag Washer F7E1 Error Code
Motor or basket speed problem on Maytag washers.
The motor or basket didn't reach the speed the cycle needs. On a newly installed front-loader, shipping bolts left in place are a likely cause, and an overloaded drum can trigger it too.
Compatible models
Maytag front-loaders and top-loaders, including the Bravos and Centennial VMW top-loaders on Sears PartsDirect's list.
Also shown as
On front-loaders Maytag describes F7 E1 as a motor speed sensing error. On Bravos top-loaders Sears PartsDirect lists it as a basket speed sensor fault, with the sensor built into the shifter; Maytag's own top-load page advises a reset, then service.
Difficulty
Start with the safe checks below; a worn part may need replacing.

How to fix Maytag F7E1
Remove shipping bolts (new front-loaders)
Unplug the washer. Check the back panel for the four shipping bolts and their plastic spacers; Maytag says all of them must come out before the washer is used. Your installation instructions show how.
Reduce the load
Take out some items so the drum isn't packed. With the washer unplugged, turn the drum or basket by hand and feel for any catching.
Clear the code and reset
Front-loaders: Pause/Cancel twice, then Power once. On a top-loader, or if F7E1 comes back, unplug for 5 minutes, then plug in and try a cycle.
When to call a technician
Shipping bolts out, a normal load and F7E1 still returning: the motor, its speed sensor or the drive parts need a technician.
