About Maytag washer error codes
Maytag is an American brand owned by Whirlpool Corporation. Because Maytag and Whirlpool share engineering, many Maytag appliances use the same F-and-E style codes, though the exact meaning can still differ by model, so check the code against your own appliance.
How to read Maytag washer codes
Maytag washers show most faults as an F number plus an E number (F9 E1, F5 E2), sometimes with a space and sometimes without. Read both halves. A handful of codes are short words instead, like LdU, OL, HC, Sud or LOC, and several of those are status messages you can clear yourself.
To clear a code on a front-loader, press Pause/Cancel twice and then Power once. Maytag's fuller reset, for any model, is to unplug the washer or switch off its breaker for 5 minutes, then restore power, pick the cycle again and press Start.
Maytag notes that its lists may not cover every code for every model. If what you see doesn't match, the owner's manual or the tech sheet tucked inside the cabinet is the reference for your washer.
Of the 16 codes on this page, 11 usually have a simple fix you can do yourself, and 3 usually need a technician. Each guide says which is which, so you don't pay for a service call you don't need, and you don't attempt a repair that isn't safe.
Before you start
- Write down your model number. It's on a sticker, usually inside the door or lid, on the frame, or on the back or side panel. Parts and some code meanings depend on it.
- Try a reset. Unplug the washer or switch off its breaker for 10 minutes. This clears many one-off glitches without tools.
- Keep a towel and a shallow pan nearby. Many fixes involve water left in the drum or drain pump.
