Samsung Dishwasher 4C / 4E Error Code

Not enough water coming in. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

4C / 4E
Easy DIY fix

The dishwasher isn't getting water at the pressure or temperature it needs. A closed or partly closed supply valve, a kinked or frozen supply line, or a clogged inlet screen is the usual reason. A failed inlet valve is less common.

UK models also use 4C5 / 4E5 when the dishwasher starts to fill and then gives up with a dry tub. Models without a display show this as a pattern of blinking lights.

Safety first: unplug the dishwasher (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Samsung 4C / 4E

  1. Open the supply valve fully

Find the shutoff valve under the sink and turn it fully open. Make sure the water to the house hasn't been shut off for work nearby.

  2. Check the supply line

Look along the supply line for kinks or crushing behind the dishwasher. Samsung advises against Flood Safe-style hoses, which can restrict flow. In cold weather, check that the line under the sink hasn't frozen; leave the cabinet door open to let it warm up.

  3. Confirm pressure and temperature

Samsung asks for 20 to 120 psi (about 1.4 to 8.3 bar) of supply pressure and hot water of 120 to 149°F (49 to 65°C). If other faucets in the house are weak, the problem is in the plumbing rather than the dishwasher.

  4. Power cycle the dishwasher

Switch the dishwasher off at its circuit breaker (or unplug it) and wait about 2 minutes. Restore power and start a fresh cycle. If the code clears and stays away, it was likely a one-time glitch.

When to call a technician

If the valve is open, the line is clear, and pressure is normal but the code returns, request service. The inlet valve or control likely needs testing.

Frequently asked questions

What does 4C / 4E mean on a Samsung dishwasher?

The dishwasher isn't getting water at the pressure or temperature it needs. A closed or partly closed supply valve, a kinked or frozen supply line, or a clogged inlet screen is the usual reason. A failed inlet valve is less common.

Can I fix Samsung 4C / 4E myself?

Usually, yes. Most 4C / 4E problems clear with simple checks you can do at home. Start with the first step above: open the supply valve fully.

What if 4C / 4E keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when 4C / 4E appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
