Bosch Dishwasher E24 Error Code

Dishwasher is not draining (blocked drain path). Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

E24
Easy DIY fix

The dishwasher can't pump water out properly, so it stops and leaves water in the tub. The usual causes are a clogged filter, a kinked drain hose, a loose pump cover, or a blocked connection at the sink drain or garbage disposer.

Newer US models show E6103 for the same fault. UK and EU models use E24 too. On UK and EU installs the drain hose often connects to a spigot on the sink trap; on a new trap that spigot may still be blanked off. E24 and E25 are closely related, so try the steps for both.

Safety first: unplug the dishwasher (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Bosch E24

  1. Cancel the cycle and let it try to drain

On many Bosch models, pressing and holding Start (or a button marked Reset with a hold time, such as 4 sec) for a few seconds cancels the cycle and pumps out the water. Button names vary, so check your manual. If water still won't pump out, carry on with the next steps.

  2. Clean the filter

Switch off the breaker or unplug the unit first. Remove the bottom rack, twist out the filter at the bottom of the tub, and rinse it under running water with a soft brush. Wear gloves, since broken glass sometimes collects here.

  3. Check the drain hose and sink connection

Make sure the drain hose isn't kinked or crushed behind the dishwasher or under the sink. If the hose connects to a garbage disposer that was just installed, the disposer's knockout plug must be removed, or water has nowhere to go. On a new UK or EU sink trap, check that the dishwasher spigot is open.

  4. Make sure the pump cover is seated

With the filter out, look for the small pump cover at the bottom of the sump. If it is loose, press it firmly back into place. Refit the filter, restore power, and run a short cycle.

When to call a technician

If the filter, hose, and sink connection are all clear and E24 keeps coming back, have a technician check the drain pump and internal drain passages.

Frequently asked questions

What does E24 mean on a Bosch dishwasher?

The dishwasher can't pump water out properly, so it stops and leaves water in the tub. The usual causes are a clogged filter, a kinked drain hose, a loose pump cover, or a blocked connection at the sink drain or garbage disposer.

Can I fix Bosch E24 myself?

Usually, yes. Most E24 problems clear with simple checks you can do at home. Start with the first step above: cancel the cycle and let it try to drain.

What if E24 keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when E24 appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
