Bosch Dishwasher E16 / E17 Error Code
Water can't enter the dishwasher. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.
The dishwasher isn't taking in water the way it should. The usual causes are a closed or partly closed supply valve, a kinked or damaged inlet hose, or a fault in the inlet valve.
Newer US models show E3300 or E3400 for the same fault. European guides group E16 and E17 with other water supply codes (E14, E18).
How to fix Bosch E16 / E17
Open the supply valve fully
Find the shutoff valve under the sink and make sure it is turned all the way open. Valves that were recently worked on are often left partly closed.
Check the inlet hose
Look along the inlet hose for kinks, crushing, or damage, especially where it runs behind the dishwasher. Straighten any bends you can reach.
Reset the dishwasher at the breaker
Switch off the dishwasher's circuit breaker, wait about 30 seconds, then switch it back on. Run a short cycle with the dishwasher empty and watch whether the same code comes back. A code that clears and stays away was likely a one-time glitch.
When to call a technician
If the valve is open, the hose looks fine, and the code returns, call Bosch support or a technician to check the inlet valve.

Frequently asked questions
What does E16 / E17 mean on a Bosch dishwasher?
The dishwasher isn't taking in water the way it should. The usual causes are a closed or partly closed supply valve, a kinked or damaged inlet hose, or a fault in the inlet valve.
Can I fix Bosch E16 / E17 myself?
Usually, yes. Most E16 / E17 problems clear with simple checks you can do at home. Start with the first step above: open the supply valve fully.
What if E16 / E17 keeps coming back?
A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when E16 / E17 appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
