Bosch Dishwasher E23 Error Code

Drain pump fault. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

E23
May need a pro

The control has found a problem with the drain pump: it may be jammed, clogged, or failing electrically. Bosch treats this as a service code rather than a simple clean-out.

Newer US models show E6101 for the same fault. Coolblue's Bosch and Siemens guide also lists E23 as a fault that needs service.

Safety first: unplug the dishwasher (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Bosch E23

  1. Clean the filter and check the pump cover

Switch off the breaker or unplug the unit. Remove and rinse the filter, and check that the pump cover underneath is in place and not jammed with debris, as described for E25.

  2. Reset the dishwasher at the breaker

Switch off the dishwasher's circuit breaker, wait about 30 seconds, then switch it back on. Run a short cycle with the dishwasher empty and watch whether the same code comes back. A code that clears and stays away was likely a one-time glitch.

When to call a technician

If E23 returns after a reset, call Bosch support or a technician. Testing and replacing the drain pump is a technician job.

Frequently asked questions

What does E23 mean on a Bosch dishwasher?

The control has found a problem with the drain pump: it may be jammed, clogged, or failing electrically. Bosch treats this as a service code rather than a simple clean-out.

Can I fix Bosch E23 myself?

Only the basic checks. You can safely try the steps above, but E23 usually points to a part or fault that needs a technician.

What if E23 keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when E23 appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
