Samsung Washer 4C Error Code
Washer is not filling with water. What it means, which models show it, and how to clear it, easiest fix first.
SamsungAll Samsung washer codes
The washer is not getting enough water in the time it expects, so it stops the cycle. The usual culprits are supply valves that are partly closed, kinked or frozen fill hoses, clogged inlet screens, or low household water pressure. A failed water inlet valve is the most common part failure behind this code.
Compatible models
Samsung doesn't publish a model list for this code; it appears on Samsung washers with a digital display. Check your owner's manual.
Also shown as
Also shown as 4E, nF, or 1 4C depending on the model and display. Do not confuse it with 4C2, 4E2, or nF1, which on most models mean the hot and cold hoses are reversed (some top-load models use nF1 as a general water supply error, so check your manual).
Difficulty
Most people can clear this one at home with simple checks.
How to fix Samsung 4C
Open both supply valves fully
Find the hot and cold faucets behind the washer and turn each one counterclockwise until it stops. Make sure the hot hose goes to the hot inlet and the cold hose to the cold inlet, and that neither hose is pinched behind the machine.
Check the drain hose position
Samsung recommends the drain hose go 6 to 8 inches into the standpipe, no deeper. A hose pushed in too far can siphon water out while the washer is filling, which can trigger a fill error. Samsung also advises against Flood Safe-style supply hoses, so swap them for standard fill hoses if you have them.
Reset the power
Turn the washer off, then unplug it or switch off its circuit breaker for about 2 to 3 minutes. Restore power and start a new cycle. A one-time glitch often clears this way, so note whether the code comes back.
Clean the inlet screens
Shut off both faucets, unplug the washer, and keep a towel and bucket handy. Unscrew the fill hoses from the back of the washer and gently remove any grit or mineral buildup from the small mesh screens at the inlets using needle-nose pliers or a soft brush. Reattach the hoses hand-tight plus a quarter turn, then turn the water back on and check for leaks.
When to call a technician
If the faucets are open, water pressure is normal, and the screens are clear but the code returns, the water inlet valve or control board likely needs testing and replacement by a technician.

Usually, yes. Most 4C problems clear with simple checks you can do at home. Start with the first step above: open both supply valves fully.
What if 4C keeps coming back?
A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when 4C appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
