Samsung Washer OC Error Code

Washer is overfilling. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

OC
Moderate DIY

The washer has detected a water level above the safe limit. The most common cause is a water inlet valve that sticks open and keeps letting water in. A faulty water level sensor or control board, or very low household water pressure that keeps the valve from closing fully, can also cause it.

Also shown as OE, 0E, 0C, 1 OC, or 1 0C (the letter O and number zero are used interchangeably).

Safety first: unplug the washer (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Samsung OC

  1. Cut the power and watch the drum

Unplug the washer, or switch off its breaker if the plug or outlet is wet or you are standing in water. Watch for a minute: if water keeps flowing into the drum with the power off, the inlet valve is stuck open.

  2. Shut off the water

Turn off both supply faucets behind the washer right away if water was still flowing, and wipe up any water on the floor before going further. If the fill stopped once the power was off, the problem is more likely the level sensor or the control.

  3. Reset the power

Once the floor is dry, wait about 2 to 3 minutes with the washer unplugged, then restore power, open the faucets, and run a Drain/Spin or a short cycle while you stay nearby. Turn the faucets off again if the drum keeps filling.

When to call a technician

Because a stuck inlet valve can flood your floor, call a technician if the washer fills while unplugged or the code returns after a reset. Keep the water faucets off between loads until it is repaired.

Frequently asked questions

What does OC mean on a Samsung washer?

The washer has detected a water level above the safe limit. The most common cause is a water inlet valve that sticks open and keeps letting water in. A faulty water level sensor or control board, or very low household water pressure that keeps the valve from closing fully, can also cause it.

Can I fix Samsung OC myself?

Often. The first steps above are safe checks a homeowner can do. If they don't clear OC, the cause is likely a worn part that needs replacing.

What if OC keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when OC appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
