Bosch Washer E18 / F18 Error Code
Washer is not draining. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.
The washer could not pump the water out in the expected time, so water may still be sitting in the drum. On Bosch machines this usually comes down to a clogged drain pump (debris filter) or a kinked or blocked drain hose.
Shown as E18 or F18 depending on the model, and Bosch's Middle East and Australian support pages say some models show the same drain fault as d02. On some newer US models the display alternates E:00 and -18 for a blocked pump. Bosch's US, UK and Australian support pages all treat E18 as a draining problem, but check your manual if your display differs.
How to fix Bosch E18 / F18
Check the drain hose for kinks
Turn the washer off and unplug it. If the floor around the outlet or cord is wet, switch off the washer's circuit breaker instead of touching the plug. Ease the washer out from the wall and look at the drain hose behind it: it should not be pinched, crushed or folded. Straighten it, then slide the washer back without trapping the hose.
Drain the water and clean the pump
With the washer unplugged and the water tap closed, let any hot water cool first. Open the small service flap at the bottom front, lay towels down and use a shallow pan: drain the leftover water through the small emergency hose if your model has one, then slowly unscrew the pump cover. Remove lint, coins and other debris from the cover, its threads and the pump opening, and check that the impeller turns freely by hand.
Refit the cover and test
Screw the pump cover back in firmly (Bosch says the grip should end up vertical) and close the flap. Pour about 1 quart (1 L) of water into the detergent drawer, plug the washer back in, run the Drain or Spin program and check the pump area for drips.
Clear the drain hose itself
If the code returns, unplug the washer again, put a bucket under the drain connection, loosen the clamp and remove the hose. Rinse or flush out any clog in the hose and the standpipe or sink connection, then reattach it securely and check for leaks.
When to call a technician
If the pump is clean, the hose is clear and the washer still shows the code or will not drain, the drain pump itself is likely faulty and should be replaced by a technician.

Frequently asked questions
What does E18 / F18 mean on a Bosch washer?
The washer could not pump the water out in the expected time, so water may still be sitting in the drum. On Bosch machines this usually comes down to a clogged drain pump (debris filter) or a kinked or blocked drain hose.
Can I fix Bosch E18 / F18 myself?
Usually, yes. Most E18 / F18 problems clear with simple checks you can do at home. Start with the first step above: check the drain hose for kinks.
What if E18 / F18 keeps coming back?
A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when E18 / F18 appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
