About LG refrigerator error codes
LG Electronics is a South Korean manufacturer and one of the best-selling appliance brands in the US. LG appliances show short letter-and-number codes on the main control panel, and many recent models can also report them to the LG ThinQ app.
How to read LG refrigerator codes
LG fridge codes usually start with Er, E, r or F (Er FF, E FF and plain F can all be the same freezer fan fault), and the exact letters depend on the model. On many digital panels you bring up the code by holding Freezer Temperature and Express Frz together for about 3 seconds. Some older panels show a fault by lighting a pattern of LEDs instead of letters; your manual has the chart.
LG's first fix for most codes is a power reset. Unplug the refrigerator (or switch off its breaker) for a few minutes, then plug it straight into a wall outlet, not a power strip or extension cord. Give it up to 5 minutes to restart fully before you decide the code is back.
If you end up defrosting, do it slowly: unplug the fridge, empty it into coolers, lay towels down and leave the doors open. LG says that can take about a day in summer and up to three in winter. Never use a hair dryer, heat gun or sharp tool on the ice. After it's back on, allow 24 to 48 hours for normal temperatures.
Of the 17 codes on this page, 4 usually have a simple fix you can do yourself, and 7 usually need a technician. Each guide says which is which, so you don't pay for a service call you don't need, and you don't attempt a repair that isn't safe.

Most refrigerator water filters twist or push out in under a minute, and Whirlpool, Samsung and LG all say to replace them about every six months.
Before you start
- Write down your model number. It's on a sticker, usually inside the door or lid, on the frame, or on the back or side panel. Parts and some code meanings depend on it.
- Try a reset. Unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker for 10 minutes. This clears many one-off glitches without tools.
- Check that the doors close fully and the vents inside aren't blocked by food. Give the fridge a few hours after any reset before judging the temperature.
