LG Refrigerator Er FS Error Code

Temperature sensor fault. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

Er FS
May need a pro

One of the fridge's temperature sensors is shorted or disconnected, so the control cannot read that area correctly and cooling may be less accurate. Er FS is the freezer sensor, Er rS the fridge sensor, Er dS the defrost sensor and Er rT the room (ambient) sensor.

Grouped codes: FS, rS, r2 (lower fridge sensor), dS (also F dS or r dS), rT, SS (pantry or water tank sensor, depending on model) and HS (humidity sensor). Check your manual for which sensors your model has.

Safety first: unplug the refrigerator (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix LG Er FS

  1. Reset the power

Unplug the refrigerator for about 5 minutes, then plug it back in and see if the code clears.

  2. Watch the temperatures

Place an appliance thermometer in the affected section. Move food to a cooler if the fridge rises above 40°F (4°C) or the freezer above 0°F (-18°C).

When to call a technician

Sensor faults need a technician to test and replace the part. Request service if the code returns after a reset.

Frequently asked questions

What does Er FS mean on a LG refrigerator?

One of the fridge's temperature sensors is shorted or disconnected, so the control cannot read that area correctly and cooling may be less accurate. Er FS is the freezer sensor, Er rS the fridge sensor, Er dS the defrost sensor and Er rT the room (ambient) sensor.

Can I fix LG Er FS myself?

Only the basic checks. You can safely try the steps above, but Er FS usually points to a part or fault that needs a technician.

What if Er FS keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when Er FS appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
