GE Dishwasher 999 Error Code

Control needs a reset (or leak on some models). Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

999
Easy DIY fix

On most models, 999 means the control needs to be reset and the dishwasher won't run until it is cleared. On Floor Protect with Alert models, it can signal a possible leak.

On Floor Protect with Alert models, 999 can mean a possible leak and the unit will not start; schedule service rather than resetting. On other models it means the control needs a reset. The button-hold reset below is GE's published method for certain models (for example GDT225, PDT145 and ZDT165 series); check your owner's manual for yours.

Safety first: unplug the dishwasher (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix GE 999

  1. Check your model, then reset

If your model has Floor Protect with Alert, skip the reset: turn off the water supply, check under the unit for water and schedule service. Otherwise, press and hold Cycle Select and Start together for about 5 seconds until 999 clears. A blank display or another number is fine.

  2. Finish the reset

Press any button. The display may then show a cycle time such as 130, and the dishwasher is ready.
