KitchenAid Refrigerator F3E1 Error Code
Fresh food temperature sensor fault on KitchenAid refrigerators.
KitchenAidAll KitchenAid refrigerator codes
The thermistor that reads the fresh food section has dropped out, or its wiring has. With no reading to go on, the control has to guess, so the fridge side may drift warm or start freezing lettuce. A loose connector in the harness can cause it just as well as a failed sensor.
Compatible models
KitchenAid lists F3E1 among the F codes for its French door bottom freezer refrigerators and doesn't name model numbers.
Also shown as
KitchenAid's own F3E1 page only gives the reset steps. The Whirlpool Corporation tech sheet that carries this code set (W11446054) lists F3E1 as the refrigeration compartment temperature sensor.
Difficulty
Try the basic checks, but the usual fix is a technician's job.

How to fix KitchenAid F3E1
Cut power for a minute
Unplug the fridge or turn off its breaker for one minute, then switch it back on. Check that cooling is on and watch the display for a minute to see if the F starts flashing again.
Measure the real temperature
Set a thermometer in a cup of water on the middle shelf and read it after several hours. A reading of 37 to 40°F (3 to 4°C) means the fridge is still holding temperature while you wait for service.
Move food that's at risk
If the water reads above 40°F (4°C), pack milk, meat and leftovers into a cooler with ice until the repair.
When to call a technician
A code that comes back after the reset needs a technician to meter the sensor and the harness at the control board. Both sit behind interior panels.
