Kenmore Refrigerator Er IF Error Code
Ice compartment fan has failed on Kenmore refrigerators.
KenmoreAll Kenmore refrigerator codes
A small fan moves cold freezer air up through ducts in the door to the ice maker compartment, and the control says it has stopped. According to Sears PartsDirect, moisture that gets into this fan can short it, and that short often damages the main control board too.
Compatible models

Also shown as
Er IS and Er It are separate ice maker codes on the same 795 models.
Difficulty
Try the basic checks, but the usual fix is a technician's job.

How to fix Kenmore Er IF
Check the ice compartment
Open the fresh-food door and look at the ice maker area. Frost on its walls or ice around the fan opening means humid air is getting in; empty and dry the bin, and check that the ice compartment door shuts tight.
Thaw an iced-in fan
Unplug the refrigerator, put towels down and leave the doors open until all the ice in that compartment is gone. No hair dryers, heat guns or picks.
Run it for a day
Plug it back in and let it run normally. Ice output may slow while the fan is out, so keep a bag of store ice handy. A returning Er IF is your cue to stop and book service.
When to call a technician
Since a failed ice fan so often takes the main control board with it, have a technician test both before you order parts. Swapping just the fan can leave the code in place.
