GE Refrigerator CI Error Code
Icemaker not working properly. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.
The control has detected that the icemaker isn't operating as it should. Ice jammed in the mold or a lack of water to the icemaker are common causes. A failed icemaker assembly is also possible.
Appears on GE models with an electronic dispenser display. Icemakers with an LED on their On/Off switch may also flash a green light; see the Icemaker green light entry.
How to fix GE CI
Clear jammed ice
Turn the icemaker off (or unplug the refrigerator) and remove any cubes stuck in the mold or around the ejector arm by hand. Don't pry with a knife or metal tool, and don't touch the mold right after a harvest because it can be hot.
Restore the water supply
Make sure the household water valve to the refrigerator is fully open and the supply line behind the unit isn't kinked. If you've shut the water off on purpose, switch the icemaker off too so it doesn't keep trying.
Clear the code
Turn the icemaker back on and press System Check if your model has it, or unplug the refrigerator for a minute or two.
When to call a technician
If CI returns once ice is cleared and water is on, the icemaker assembly probably needs replacing; a technician can confirm.

Frequently asked questions
What does CI mean on a GE refrigerator?
The control has detected that the icemaker isn't operating as it should. Ice jammed in the mold or a lack of water to the icemaker are common causes. A failed icemaker assembly is also possible.
Can I fix GE CI myself?
Often. The first steps above are safe checks a homeowner can do. If they don't clear CI, the cause is likely a worn part that needs replacing.
What if CI keeps coming back?
A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when CI appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
