How it works
House pressure pushes water through the line whenever the inlet valve opens. A kink or a half-closed valve starves the dispenser and ice maker.
Signs it is failing
- Weak or no water at the dispenser
- Ice maker making little ice
- Water on the floor behind the fridge
- A kinked or crushed line after the fridge was moved
Water flow and ice codes often trace back to the supply line. It's the first place to check.
Can you replace it yourself?
Shut off the water and unplug the fridge before you slide it out. A braided stainless line is the safest replacement; most connect with a compression fitting at the valve.
Buying the right part
Get a line long enough for the fridge to slide out without stretching. Skip thin plastic tubing, which kinks and turns brittle with age.
