Samsung Dryer Clg Error Code

Vent clogged (vent test result). Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

Clg
Moderate DIY

These codes are results of the dryer's vent blockage test. Clg or Cg means the vent is clogged, C80 or C8 means it is about 80% blocked, and C90 or C9 means over 90% blocked. A clogged vent makes drying slow and lets lint and heat build up, which is a fire risk.

Shown only after you run a vent blockage test. Equivalent forms include Cg, C8, C80, C8o, C9, C90 and C9o. Some models have a Vent Check light instead, which Samsung says lights at about 60% blocked and blinks at about 80%. For C1 and Ct test results, see their own entry.

Safety first: unplug the dryer (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Samsung Clg

  1. Clean the lint screen

Pull the lint screen and remove all lint. If dryer-sheet residue makes it look waxy, wash it in warm water and let it dry fully.

  2. Clear the hose behind the dryer

Unplug the dryer (on a gas dryer, unplug it but do not touch the gas line). Disconnect the exhaust hose, clear the lint out of it and the dryer outlet, and straighten any kinks or crushed sections. Samsung recommends rigid venting; flimsy foil or plastic hose crushes easily and traps lint, so it is worth replacing.

  3. Check the outside vent

Clear lint from the outside vent hood and make sure its flaps open freely when the dryer runs. Remove any screen over the outlet.

  4. Have the full duct cleaned

If the test still shows a clog, hire a dryer vent cleaning service to clean the duct inside the walls or roof. Samsung advises cleaning the vent at least once or twice a year.

When to call a technician

If a fully cleaned, short duct still fails the test, have a technician check the dryer. Stop using the dryer if it gets very hot to the touch or smells of burning.

Frequently asked questions

What does Clg mean on a Samsung dryer?

These codes are results of the dryer's vent blockage test. Clg or Cg means the vent is clogged, C80 or C8 means it is about 80% blocked, and C90 or C9 means over 90% blocked. A clogged vent makes drying slow and lets lint and heat build up, which is a fire risk.

Can I fix Samsung Clg myself?

Often. The first steps above are safe checks a homeowner can do. If they don't clear Clg, the cause is likely a worn part that needs replacing.

What if Clg keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when Clg appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
