LG Dryer tE1 Error Code
Temperature sensor (thermistor) fault. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.
The control board is getting an impossible reading from one of the dryer's temperature sensors, called thermistors. It can be a failed sensor, a loose or damaged wire to it, or occasionally the control board. Heavy lint around the sensor or a blocked vent can also upset the readings.
tE3 is the same kind of fault on another thermistor (parts guides call tE1 the main sensor and tE3 the exhaust sensor; on some models tE1 is the drum outlet sensor). For tE2, see its own entry. On LG heat pump (ventless) dryers, LG groups tE codes with drain checks, so follow the E13 hose checks too.
How to fix LG tE1
Reset the controls
Unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker. While it has no power, press and hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds. Restore power and run a short cycle.
Clean the lint screen and check the vent
Clean the lint screen and make sure the outside vent flap opens when the dryer runs. Poor airflow makes the dryer run hot and can trigger sensor faults.
When to call a technician
If the code returns after a reset, book a repair. A technician will test the thermistor and its wiring and replace the part that has failed.
Parts that commonly cause tE1
- thermistor
- wire harness
- main control board
Order parts by your exact model number so they fit.

Frequently asked questions
What does tE1 mean on a LG dryer?
The control board is getting an impossible reading from one of the dryer's temperature sensors, called thermistors. It can be a failed sensor, a loose or damaged wire to it, or occasionally the control board. Heavy lint around the sensor or a blocked vent can also upset the readings.
Can I fix LG tE1 myself?
Only the basic checks. You can safely try the steps above, but tE1 usually points to a part or fault that needs a technician.
What if tE1 keeps coming back?
A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when tE1 appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
