LG Dryer E13 Error Code

Drain problem (heat pump and hybrid dryers). Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

E13
Moderate DIY

Ventless heat pump and hybrid dryers collect water from the clothes and pump it away. E13 means that water is not draining, usually because the drain hose is kinked, crushed or clogged, or because water in the sump has frozen in a cold room.

LG lists E13 for its hybrid and heat pump (ventless) dryers. Standard vented gas and electric dryers do not show this code.

Safety first: unplug the dryer (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix LG E13

  1. Check the drain hose

Unplug the dryer. Follow the drain hose to its end, straighten any kinks or twists and clear any clog at the tip. LG says the top of the hose should be no more than about 3.3 ft (1 m) above the floor, and to use only the standard LG hose, not an extension.

  2. Warm the room

If the dryer is in a cold space, let the room warm up to normal temperature so any ice can thaw.

  3. Restart

Plug the dryer back in and press Start/Pause.

When to call a technician

If E13 returns with a clear, correctly routed hose, the drain pump or its parts need a technician.

Frequently asked questions

What does E13 mean on a LG dryer?

Ventless heat pump and hybrid dryers collect water from the clothes and pump it away. E13 means that water is not draining, usually because the drain hose is kinked, crushed or clogged, or because water in the sump has frozen in a cold room.

Can I fix LG E13 myself?

Often. The first steps above are safe checks a homeowner can do. If they don't clear E13, the cause is likely a worn part that needs replacing.

What if E13 keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when E13 appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
