Fujitsu Air Conditioner 18 Error Code

External or Wi-Fi adapter communication error. Here is what it means and how to clear it, easiest fix first.

18
Moderate DIY

The indoor unit lost contact with an add-on device connected to it, such as the Wi-Fi (WLAN) adapter used by the FGLair app or an external input/output board. The adapter may be unpowered, disconnected or faulty.

Lamp pattern: on models that show faults with the indicator lamps, Fujitsu's tables for many current wall-mounted (RL/RLS/RLX, LZAH), compact ducted (RGLX) and RLF multi-zone units show this code as the Operation lamp flashing 1 time and the Timer lamp flashing 8 times, with the Economy lamp marked "continuous". Other Fujitsu units, such as universal-mount and ceiling-suspended models, use different lamps. A wired controller shows the code as a number. Listed as 18.1 in Fujitsu's FGLair app table. Fujitsu's service manual for the LZAH series ties it to the Wi-Fi (WLAN) adapter as well as other external connections. Fujitsu's older code set (for example older 9CQ/9RLQ/12CQ wall units, RMLQ-series multi-zone heads and some RCLX ceiling cassettes) uses different numbers for many faults, so always check the manual for your model.

Safety first: unplug the air conditioner (or switch off its breaker) before touching filters, hoses or panels. If you smell burning or gas, or see water near the outlet, stop and call a professional.

How to fix Fujitsu 18

  1. Reset the power at the breaker

Switch the system off with the remote, then turn off its circuit breaker in your home's main panel. Wait about 5 minutes, switch the breaker back on and restart the unit. Restart your home router as well if the unit is connected to Wi-Fi.

  2. Check the app and adapter

Open the FGLair or Airstage app and see whether the unit shows as offline. If it does, follow the app's steps to reconnect it to your home network.

When to call a technician

If the code persists, a technician or the installer should check the adapter's connection to the indoor board and replace the adapter if needed.

Frequently asked questions

What does 18 mean on a Fujitsu air conditioner?

The indoor unit lost contact with an add-on device connected to it, such as the Wi-Fi (WLAN) adapter used by the FGLair app or an external input/output board. The adapter may be unpowered, disconnected or faulty.

Can I fix Fujitsu 18 myself?

Often. The first steps above are safe checks a homeowner can do. If they don't clear 18, the cause is likely a worn part that needs replacing.

What if 18 keeps coming back?

A code that returns after a reset and the checks above usually means a part is wearing out. Note when 18 appears (which cycle, how often) and have your model number ready; it helps a technician bring the right part on the first visit.
