About Baxi boiler error codes
Baxi is a long-established British boiler brand found in many UK homes. Its boilers show faults as a number, usually starting with E on older ranges such as the Platinum and Combi 800, while the newer Combi 2 and System 2 ranges use a different code list, so check which range you have.
How to read Baxi boiler codes
Baxi hasn't used one code list across every boiler, so check the user guide for your exact model before acting on a number. On the older Platinum Combi, for example, low pressure shows as E119, while the Combi 825 shows E118. The newer Combi 2 and System 2 ranges have a separate code list that isn't covered here. Some displays split a three-digit code, so E133 can appear as E1 alternating with 33.
A lockout you're allowed to clear is reset with the reset button, or by turning the selector to R and holding it for at least 5 seconds; the code should give way to the current temperature. A spanner symbol can't be cleared by the user. If lockouts keep happening, Baxi treats that as a fault for your installer or a Gas Safe registered engineer (a Registered Gas Installer in Ireland). Owners shouldn't take the casing off or touch the gas valve, burner, fan, flue or wiring.
Smell gas? Leave the light switches and plugs alone, don't strike a match, open the windows and doors, shut the gas off at the meter control valve if it's safe to reach, then go outside and ring your gas emergency number. Treat a carbon monoxide alarm, or headaches and sickness that ease when you leave the house, the same way.
Of the 5 codes on this page, 2 usually have a simple fix you can do yourself, and 1 usually need a technician. Each guide says which is which, so you don't pay for a service call you don't need, and you don't attempt a repair that isn't safe.
Before you start
- Write down the model name. It's printed on the front panel or on the data badge, and your operating manual names it too. Some code meanings depend on the range.
- Use the reset button. Your operating manual shows which button resets the boiler and how many times you may try. Don't keep pressing it if the same code returns.
- Look at the pressure gauge first. Vaillant, for one, asks for at least 1 bar with the heating cold and about 1.5 bar as the usual figure; your manual gives the number for your boiler.
- If you smell gas, open the windows, don't touch switches, turn the gas off at the meter if you can and call your gas emergency number from outside.
