Dishwasher Drying fan and dry heater: What It Does and Signs It's Failing

Some machines add a dedicated drying system on top of the main heater. LG's Dynamic Heat Dry models use a fan, a dry heater and their own temperature sensor. Bosch CrystalDry models pair a fan and a heater with a chamber of zeolite, a mineral that soaks up moisture. These parts are built into the machine and can't be reached from inside the tub.

How it works

Near the end of the cycle a small fan moves warm, moist air out of the tub and through the drying system so the dishes dry faster. LG's version reads the temperature of that air with its own sensor, and Bosch's zeolite chamber has its own heater.

Signs it is failing

Only machines with these drying features show the matching fan, heater or zeolite codes. On machines without them, poor drying usually comes back to rinse aid or the main heater.

Can you replace it yourself?

Fill the rinse aid and run the hot water at the sink first, because those fix most wet-dish complaints. On LG models, don't confuse the Heat Dry filter cap with the softener cap: LG warns that water poured into the Heat Dry blower can cause leaks. Both brands send their fan and dry-heater codes to service, and the parts are wired into the control, so replacement belongs to a tech.

Always unplug the dishwasher or switch off its breaker before opening any panel, and turn off water or gas where relevant.
