Vaillant Boiler F.83 Error Code
Dry fire: no temperature change when the burner lit on Vaillant boilers.
VaillantAll Vaillant boiler codes
The burner lit but the flow or return sensor barely moved, which the boiler reads as not enough water inside it. Low system pressure is the first thing to rule out; a sensor that has slipped out of position on its pipe is the other cause in the manual.
Compatible models
Listed in the ecoTEC plus VU ..6/6-5 OVZ installation manual only. Vaillant doesn't publish which other models show it.

Difficulty
Start with the safe checks below; a worn part may need replacing.

How to fix Vaillant F.83
Check the water pressure
Look at the gauge with the boiler cold. Under 0.8 bar, refill to about 1.5 bar using the filling loop as your operating manual describes.
Bleed trapped air
If radiators are cool at the top, bleed them and then check the pressure once more.
Reset the boiler
With the pressure back up, hold reset for over 3 seconds and let the burner fire.
When to call a technician
If pressure is fine and F.83 keeps appearing, a Gas Safe engineer needs to check the sensors and water flow inside the boiler.
Parts linked to F.83
These are the parts an engineer usually checks for this code. They sit inside the sealed casing, so leave them to a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Frequently asked questions
Which Vaillant models show the F.83 code?
Listed in the ecoTEC plus VU ..6/6-5 OVZ installation manual only. Vaillant doesn't publish which other models show it.
Can I fix Vaillant F.83 myself?
Only the outside checks. The steps above are the ones Vaillant's user instructions allow; if they don't clear F.83, the fix is inside the boiler and needs a Gas Safe registered engineer (RGII in Ireland).
