Friedrich Air Conditioner E2 Error Code
Stuck button or a sensor fault, depending on model on Friedrich air conditioners.
FriedrichAll Friedrich air conditioner codes
On Friedrich's 2008-2009 room units, E2 means a button on the control panel has been held down for 20 seconds or more. If the stuck key is MODE, the unit defaults to cooling. On Uni-Fit units E2 is a sensor failure, and on ZoneAire portables it's the coil sensor.
Compatible models
Three Friedrich lines: the 2008-2009 room units in its RAC service manual, Uni-Fit UCT and UET through-the-wall models, and the ZoneAire ZCP12DA, ZHP14DA and ZHP14DB portables.
Also shown as
On the older room units, Friedrich's service manual has the technician leave error code mode and check whether E2 is still showing. If it is, the manual calls for a new control board. Uni-Fit manuals list E1 and E2 together as a sensor failure.

How to fix Friedrich E2
Check the buttons
Press each button on the control panel and make sure it springs back. Look for anything leaning on the panel, like a curtain rod, a box, or a child-safety cover.
Unplug and restart
Unplug the unit for a few minutes, plug it back in and see if E2 clears.
Clean the filter on portables
On a ZoneAire portable, a clogged filter can let the coil frost up. Unplug it, wash the filter in lukewarm water with a little detergent, and let it dry in the shade.
When to call a technician
If E2 stays after a restart, a technician needs to replace the control board (older room units) or the failed sensor (Uni-Fit and ZoneAire).
